Further Education

There are two colleges for students aged 16-18 in Barrow: Barrow Sixth Form College, which concentrates on teaching A-Levels, and Furness College, which specialises in vocational courses.

Barrow also has one private school, Chetwynde, which takes pupils from nursery to sixth form level.

Formed on 1 August, 2007 from an amalgamation of St Martin’s College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts, and the Cumbrian campuses of the University of Central Lancashire, the University of Cumbria has campuses in Carlisle, Newton Rigg, Penrith, Ambleside and Lancaster, as well as a specialist teacher-education centre in London.
