 Getting Around

Road
Leaving the M6 motorway at Junction 36 to join the A590, Barrow is approximately a 45-minute drive away. North of the town, the A595 links Barrow with the coastal towns of Workington and Whitehaven.

Air

Barrow is home to Walney Airfield, which is owned and operated by BAE Systems Submarine Solutions. It’s one of two airports in the county, the other being Carlisle Airport.  Blackpool International is the nearest international airport, while Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester Airport are commonly used.

Rail
Barrow-in-Furness railway station provides connections to Workington, Whitehaven, Carlise, Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands and Lancaster, among others. The nearest major cities, Preston and Manchester, are accessible in under two-and-a-half hours, and there’s a direct link to Manchester Airport. Roose, Barrow’s second railway station, serves the suburb of Roose and the surrounding areas.

Bus
Bus services in Barrow are operated by Stagecoach Northwest. Although there is no named bus station, most routes start and terminate near the Town Hall in the town centre. Services also link Barrow with neighbouring towns and villages, with longer distance routes to Kendal and the Lake District running daily.
