State education in Furness is provided by the local education authority (LEA), Cumbria County Council. Every year, the Department for Education and Skills publishes information on the achievement and attainment of pupils in each school. For more information you can log onto the Department for Education and Skills website at www.dcsf.gov.uk/index.htm

You can also find detailed OFSTED (Office for Standards in Education) reports at www.ofsted.gov.uk

There’s a wide choice of educational establishments in the area, and in September a new multi-million pound academy will replace three of Barrow's secondary schools. This will be built where one of those, Parkview School, now stands, with completion of new buildings and facilities expected in 2012.

If you require help and advice in choosing a school, Cumbria County Council has a specialist service to help you find the one that best suits your child’s needs. For more information visit www.cumbriacc.gov.uk/childrensservices/admissions

It's a great place to work, and a really open and honest environment.
