Barrow has several housing estates, including:
Holbeck and Hawcoat
Although Holbeck and Hawcoat are not adjacent, they are two comparable areas and attract similar buyers. The properties are predominantly owned by families, executives and retired persons. Although more new houses have been built over the last few years, there are still character period cottages at Old Hawcoat and Roose village, and a wide selection of detached, semi-detached and bungalows are available.

Holbeck has access to two junior schools, two family-orientated public houses and two corner shops. A branch of Tesco Extra has recently opened just outside of the estate and Roose train station is close to hand. A country lane provides access from Holbeck to the historic Furness Abbey.

Hawcoat also has two junior schools, a local convenience store, a hairdressers, launderette and a bakers, with a regular bus service to the town centre. Furness General Hospital is close by.

Newbarns
A residential area with a variety of properties inclusive of semi-detached, terraced and terraced mews. Some of these properties are ex-local authority and many have gardens. Newbarns is close to several junior and senior schools and there are plenty of shops, takeaways and public houses within the area. Home owners range from families to first time buyers.
Barrow Island and Barrow town centre
Providing easy access to Barrow town centre and within walking distance of the town’s main shops, public houses, nightlife, restaurants, cafés and bars, the majority of properties in this area are terraced.

Walney
Accessed via Jubilee Bridge, Walney is a small coastal island with several beaches, popular with sailors, fishermen and more recently kite and windsurfers. A selection of properties are available here, and many benefit from views over the Irish Sea. Houses range from period properties, bungalows, affordable first time buyer homes, traditional semi-detached houses and more recently-built detached properties. There are four junior schools and a senior school on the island. Walney boasts the popular Roundhouse Chinese restaurant and a variety of pubs offer excellent food. Other amenities include a chemist, a doctors, and a handful of corner shops.

Dalton
Situated just outside Barrow, Dalton is a small town with a selection of local shops, takeaways and other amenities. There is also a variety of local junior schools and one senior school. South Lakes Wild Animal Park is a popular local attraction and Clarence House provides top quality restaurant food and hotel accommodation. All house styles are available here and buyers are varied. Dalton provides easy access to Askam and Kirkby which have a more rural feel.

Ulverston
Ulverston is located approximately eight miles from Barrow and has a considerably different feel to the town. Ulverston is a small market and festival town with cobbled streets and many period properties, and is a particularly desirable location for holiday homes due to its close proximity to the Lake District. Ulverston boasts a range of unique older properties, and also some newer housing estates that have been built over recent years. Surrounded by beautiful villages and with stunning views over Morecambe Bay, Ulverston is a particularly desirable town and would be suitable for any buyer looking for a more laid back and rustic lifestyle.
